Food & Drink

The festival offers attendees both sit-down meals and food stands. You'll also find local Wisconsin beer at our Craft Beer Tent. Stoughton's own Viking Brew Pub will be back with their exclusive festival offering Soot in My Eye. 

You’ll find traditional Norwegian fare like Krumakake, and some not-so-traditional fare, like the Uff Da Hot Dog. You’re never far from foods of all kinds because food stands and sit-down dinners happen all over town. Stoughton non-profit groups run all the food stands as fundraisers. Please support them and enjoy feasting at the festival!

Norwegian food and pronunciation guide:

  • Kjøttkake (key-ut kah KEE) – Norway’s answer to Swedish meatballs

  • Krumakake (CROOM-kak-AY) – a waffle cookie like an ice cream cone

  • Lapskaus (Lops-COWS) – a thick stew with meat, potatoes and root vegetables

  • Lefse (Lef-suh) – a traditional soft flatbread made from potatoes and flour

  • Lutefisk (LOO-tuh-fisk) – dried cod, tenderized in lye, rinsed and cooked

  • Risengryn Grod (REE-sen-grins GRUHT) – rice pudding

  • Riskrem (REES-krehm) – leftover risengryn grod mixed with whipped cream

  • Rømmegrøt (rum EE groot) – sweet porridge made with sour cream

  • Rutabaga soup – hearty soup from a hearty root vegetable

  • Sot suppe (SEWT SOO-puh) – a sweet soup made from dried fruits and tapioca

  • Varme Pølse (VARM - uh PULL-se): Hot dogs served Norwegian style, wrapped in lefse

8:00pm · Syttende Mai Exclusive Beer Tappings - Wisconsin Brewing Company's one barrel pilot brewery is crafting a beer specifically for Syttende Mai, called Koselig. The Norwegian word koselig means cozy, or creating warmth.  The beer style is called a ‘Sahti’, a native Nordic style and one of the oldest continually-brewed beer styles in the world. A farmhouse style ale, it was traditionally brewed with ingredients found near the farm, such as juniper berries. Expect this amber-colored beer to be a bit fruity, piney, and smoky.

This Madison based  10 member ensemble plays everything from Funk, R&B, Soul, Motown, Pop, and Contemporary Jazz.

1:00pm · Re:Fresh Radler Special Tapping

Wisconsin Brewing Company in collaboration with UW-Madison's Campus Craft Brewery are launching their 4th beer in 2018. Come and sample this Radler style beer and meet the brewers and students who worked on this project.

The Old Tin Can String Band, a southern Wisconsin favorite, plays classic and contemporary bluegrass, and old-timey and Celtic songs, with a few originals thrown into the mix. Members are Chris Powers (mandolin, mandola, bouzouki, guitar), Shauncey Ali (a fiddle phenom who won the 2016 Rocky Grass fiddle competition), Pat Spaay (guitar and banjo), and Bruce Anderson (upright bass), a lifelong Stoughton resident.

Have you ever  been to a full-blown piano bar before? The energy alone is reason enough to visit one, but you don’t have to travel far. The full-production show – with moving lights, full sound, and  two gorgeous baby grand pianos – will be set up at the Craft Beer and Music Tent.

Piano Fondue has been playing the dueling pianos show for over a decade.The entertainers are musical marvels and will be ready to take your song requests to get your toes tapping, hands clapping, and bodies moving all night long!
