Syttende Mai 2026 is in the books, and we had another successful event. The weather held out and, in spite of all the construction, for the second year in a row we welcomed over 1500 people into the venue to vote for their favorite quilt. A total of 44 quilts were entered by quilters for the Viewer’s Choice display. The Featured Quilter, Bill Hoernke, displayed over 34 quilts and wall hangings. Quilting by the River Friends provided a raffle quilt for the third year in a row. We are very thankful that the Chorus Public House again donated use of their space. The Main Street location is right at the heart of the weekend festivities and contributes to the growing popularity of the Quilt Show. We look forward to next year’s event!
2026 SYTTENDE MAI QUILT SHOW WINNERS
First Place: Lavendar Garden – Karen Lapidakis
The quilt is a kit that came from Manchester's Department Store in Madison. The color palette was popular in the mid-20th century, cross-stitched by Clarabelle Stone and hand quilted by Jesse Allen in the mid to late 1950's. This quilt was gifted to Karen in 2026.
Second Place: Tiger – Sherrie Hensel
The pattern was paper pieced and custom longarm quilted by Sherrie in 2026.
Third Place: Frank Lloyd Wright’s Saguaro – Susan French
Created from a pattern of the same name by Laura Heine with some modifications. Wool batting was used and allowed the design to puff up when quilted. Designed by Frank Lloyed Wright, pieced by Susan French, quilted by Cindy Monroe. Made in 2021.
